Rex N. White

Services for Rex White, 83, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Dr. Paul W. Powell officiating. Visitation to be held one hour prior to service.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
On July 13, 2013, at 7:20 p.m. Rex N. White went to be with his Lord at the age of 83. He was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Bettie, Upshur County. His parents were Nathaniel and Dollie Mae Dunagan White.
He married Gloria Green from Henderson on June 4, 1955. Mr. White attended White Oak Schools, Kilgore College, East Texas State Teachers College, North Texas State Teachers College, Texas A&M, University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Tyler and Stephen F. Austin. From these he received degrees of Bachelor of Sciences, Master of Education, majoring in Mathematics, Physical Education and Educational Administration.
Mr. White was employed as an instructor at Longview Campus Ward and Foster Elementary (6th grade), U.S. Army, Fort Lee, Va.; New London ISD (Math, Physics, Pre-Calculus, Coach); West Rusk Junior High Principal; Tatum ISD (Superintendent); Tyler ISD (Math, summer school Principal, Principal at Hogg Middle School) and Tyler Junior College (Math). He retired Jan. 21, 1992, after 42 years in school business, at age 62.
Mr. White was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association (Life Member), Texas Middle School Association (Life Member), Board member and president of the Texas Middle School Association (1987-88), presenter at the International Middle School Conference in Toronto, Canada (1989), Board of deacons for the Green Acres Baptist Church, deacon emeritus in the Green Acres Baptist Church, member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and officer and presenter for the Gideon's International.
Mr. White is survived by his wife, Gloria White, of Tyler; sons, Kevin White, of Houston, Brent White and wife Kathy, of Memphis, Tenn.; and daughter, Shelly Bosley and husband Bruce, of Tyler. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Hannah Bosley, Patrick Bosley, Benjamin White, David White, Adam White, Matthew White and wife Jessica, Sarah White, Stephen White; four great-grandchildren, Devin White, Jackson White, Michael White, Tawny White; and one sister, Florence LaDot Branch.
Pallbearers will be Matthew White, David White, Patrick Bosley, Paul Turman, Steve Brown, Chuck Taylor and Joel Hale. Honorary pallbearer will be Ken Hale.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 131993, Tyler, 75703-1993, for the purchase of Bibles and New Testaments for distribution by the Gideon's all over the world.
