Quana Ellen Barber

Services for Quana Ellen Barber, 94, of Ben Wheeler, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Eubank Chapel with Bro. Steve Glosup officiating under direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.
Burial will be in Haven of Memories, Canton.
She passed away Sept. 3, 2013, in Canton.
Ms. Barber was born April 27, 1919, in Martins Mill to Ervin DeKalb and Sarah Ellen Hobbs Barber.
Quana graduated from Van High School in 1936 and from North Texas State Teachers College in 1940. After graduation she joined the U.S. Navy, the first female from Van Zandt County to do so. She saw service at home and abroad. Her Naval career spanned a period of 20 years, retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander. She returned to Van Zandt County to live with and care for her mother. She was very interested in genealogy and had served as an active member of the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society.
Surviving are brothers, Liston and Alice Barber, of Ben Wheeler, Quentin E. and Stella Mae Barber, of Fort Worth; eight nieces and nephews, Errol Barber, David Barber, Diane Smith, Dana Barber, Daniel Barber, Jeff Barber, Tony Barber and Laurie Meyer.
Quana was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Brown Barber; and sisters, Marjorie Barber and Mildred Barber.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
