Services for Oscar D. Vanderworth, 90, of Tyler will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Chaplain Elwood Stetson officiating.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Vanderworth passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013.
He was born March 4, 1923, in Old Glory to Oscar and Dora Rinn Vanderworth.
Oscar was active in many churches. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy
in 1944 and was a lieutenant, serving on the USS Everett F. Larson. He graduated from The University of Texas
at Austin and was a civil engineer for 40 years. Oscar was a lifetime member of the American Association of Civil Engineers (A.S.C.E.). He lived in Denver for 49 years and he enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and fishing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Vanderworth was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene and Lee Roy Vanderworth; and sisters, Henrietta Rueffer, Leona Teichelman and Gladys Branscom.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 67 years, Ruby Vanderworth, of Tyler; daughter, Anne Ravenstone, of Mountainair, N.M.; son, Michael Vanderworth and wife Elaine, of Tyler; grandchildren, Leah Hebert, Jason Vanderworth, Tanya Hebert, Julie James; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service, on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
