Michael H. ""Mike"" Simmons

Services for Mike Simmons, 55, Canton, will be held at Eubank Funeral Home of Canton on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jim Pickens officiating.
Mike was born on Jan. 8, 1958, to Herbert and Emma Lee Simmons, and passed away on Sept. 11, 2013, after a short illness.
Mike was a graduate of Canton High School, Tyler Junior College, and The University of Texas at Austin. He was a degreed petroleum engineer and worked as a drilling consultant in the Gulf of Mexico, Singapore, China and West Africa. Mike was a deep water drilling specialist with a passion for his work, and well respected by his peers in the industry as a result. Mike was employed by Noble Energy as a senior engineering adviser.
Mike spent his childhood in Canton where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and dad. He was a boxer and reached the East Texas Golden Gloves finals on two separate occasions. Mike was an accomplished student, reaching the honor roll or dean's list at every level of education.
Mike was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton where he was baptized on July 9, 1968. Mike relied on his faith to tackle the toughest challenges of his life, and overcame many.
Mike was an avid white-tail deer hunter and owned a ranch in Central Texas where he enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family over the past 15 years. Mike loved to read, look for arrowheads and support the Longhorns.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Simmons Jr., and grandparents.
Mike is survived by his mother, Emma Lee Simmons, of Canton; sister, Brenda Simmons, of Canton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom-my and Pam Simmons, of Houston, and Frank and Brenda Simmons, of Tyler; nieces, April Doss, Ashley Hooks, Morgan Morphew and Kara Simmons; neph-ews, Joey Watley and Tom Simmons; and numerous grand-nieces and -nephews.
As a bachelor, Mike treated his nieces and nephews as his own children.
Pallbearers will be Gary Hunter, Larry Davis, Donny Davis, Eddie Deckard, Don Wycough and Chase Elliott.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Turner, Fred Stalder, Martin Lyons, Paul Hutto, Stephen Ju and the employees of Noble Energy.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Eubanks Funeral Home in Canton.
