Mary Gayle Smith, 73, of Bullard passed away Wednesday May 15, 2013, after a short illness. She was born to Norman and Edith Whitaker on April 30, 1940, in McCamey, and grew up in Navasota but lived in Tyler for the last 51 years. Mrs. Smith was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bullard. She retired from Trane in 1998 after 19 years of service. Mary loved to swim, travel and was a volunteer at Mother Frances Breast Cancer
Center for several years. She also enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her four-legged pets.
Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Earnest; and her son, Stewart Gayle. She is survived by her husband, Charles Smith; daughter, Stacy Smith; and a host of friends and family.
Services for Mary Gayle Smith are scheduled Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Brown officiating, assisted by the Rev. Sherman Mayfield and the Rev. Donny Barron, with burial following in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Maris, Jerry Hopkins, Darwin Wright, Jack Allen, Wade White and Jake Stone.
Visitation will be Friday, May 17, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75701.
