Mary Alyce Smith

Mary Alyce Smith joined her beloved Ulin in heaven on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.
She was 87 years old, born on June 6, 1926, in Allen. She married Ulin on Aug. 27, 1949. She has missed him deeply since he went to heaven to wait for her in 1996.
Mary Alyce raised three children, Pam Dibbern, of Houston, Tonya Spivey and husband Danny, of Austin, and Keith Smith and wife Paige, of Austin.
She loved and adored her grandchildren and was very proud of them. She loved to spend time with them and to take them places. Her grandchildren include granddaughter, Mary Ann Quintana and husband Jorge, of Tomball, granddaughter, Ashley Blackwell and husband Brett, of Austin, grandson, Eric Dady and wife Lindsey, of Georgetown, granddaughter, Vivian, and grandson, Oliver, of Austin.
Mary Alyce was eagerly looking forward to great-grandchildren soon, but now she will be sending her love to them from heaven.
She graduated from Baylor University and almost completed a master's degree.
She was a teacher and taught high school, middle school and elementary school. She taught in Grand Saline, Wichita Falls and Houston. Mary Alyce was also a Sunday school teacher and worked hard to bring something new to her Mary Martha Sunday School Class, even with the most familiar stories. She went on mission trips, helped with Vacation Bible School, sewed clothes for choir trips and served on too many committees to count. She was a longtime member of Sharpstown Baptist Church. Mary Alyce also enjoyed being a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She served the Braeburn Glen Civic Club and helped with neighborhood watch.
Her life was built around her family, her church, her friends and service. She was a blessing to everyone, whether it was her friends and neighbors or someone in a doctor's office, hospital, store or anyone she met. She always had a smile, a hug and a blessing. Mary Alyce loved to laugh and brighten people's days. She loved to help others. She also loved a special dog named Petey.
She will be missed very much.
A visitation will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Sharpstown Baptist Church, 7000 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, 77074, with a service to follow at 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Haven of Memories in Canton, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.
