Margaret Owens Adcock

A memorial service for Margaret Owens Adcock, 89, of Tyler will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at 4 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerry Giles officiating.

A private family burial will precede the service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Adcock, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at The Hamptons in Tyler.

She was born March 29, 1923, on a farm west of Arlington to John Samuel and Augusta Goodman Owens.

Margaret grew up in Arlington and graduated as the valedictorian of her high school in 1940. She attended The University of Texas where she graduated with a major in education. During World War II, she worked for the Red Cross Recreation and was the office manager for her father's construction company. On April 11, 1947, she married Wilbur W. Adcock Jr. They lived in Corpus Christi before moving to Tyler in 1984. They enjoyed many years together until Wilbur's death in 1995.

Margaret had an energetic personality and compassion for anyone with whom she came in contact. Through her many memberships in organizations, she sought to serve and guide others. These organizations included being a member of Marvin United Methodist Church, Little Theater, DAR, Delta Zeta Sorority, AAUW, Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She also had a great talent for sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking. She was very active and enjoyed golfing, fishing and being a supportive source for family and friends.

Margaret's pride and joy was always centered on her family. She leaves many treasured memories with her sons and their families, and she was a loving role model for all of them.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by her loving family including sons, Walter Adcock and wife Marilyn of Katy, and Dr. John Adcock and wife Madeline of Tyler; grandsons, Greg Adcock and wife Megan of Tyler, Russell Adcock of Austin, Dan Adcock and wife Jessica of Potomac, Md., Stephen Adcock of Dallas and Jay Adcock of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Mason Adcock, Owen Adcock, Sophie Adcock and Liam Adcock.

Pallbearers will be Greg Adcock, Russell Adcock, Dan Adcock, Stephen Adcock and Jay Adcock.

Visitation will follow the service at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
