Leslie Bryant Pruitt

Services for Leslie Bryant Pruitt, 92, of Tyler are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Cornerstone Assembly of God with Pastor Thomas Saali officiating, under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
He will be laid to rest in Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors. Special remarks will be made by Gen. John T. Furlow and Col. Peter Malik.
Mr. Pruitt went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, in Tyler. He was born March 18, 1921, to the late Jessie James Pruitt and Lura Cicily Meador Pruitt.
Mr. Pruitt worked as a paint foreman for Tyler home builders, Jim Collum and Dick Hightower until he retired. He was a part of the building and a founding father of Calvary, Beacon & Cornerstone Assemblies of God Churches. Hobbies included his farm and cattle, but his main love and interest were for his church and family.
He served in World War II in the 90th Division Texas Oklahoma 358th Co. K, was wounded and captured at the Battle of St. Lo for Hill 122 on July 9, 1944, where he was a POW until rescued by the Allied forces in Renz, France. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart among other awards.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Bates Pruitt; by a brother, Norman Pruitt; and a sister, Evelyn Pruitt Axtell.
Survivors include his wife, Helga Pruitt; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Sally Pruitt, of Tyler, Doug and Claudia Pruitt, of Chandler, and Francois and Maggie Cloete, of Tyler; daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne Pruitt, of Tyler, Madelein and Richard Stander, of South Africa, Christel and Steve Gagne, of Australia, and Juanita and Hardus Beetge, of Jacksonville; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly, Christy, Celeste, Jared, Jonathan, Kierstyn, Kaitlin, Kara, Jacqueline, Francois and Louise; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jared Pruitt, Jonathan Pruitt, Jeremy Gray, Taylor Gray, Austin Gray and Collin Gray. Honorary pallbearers are William C. Hearron and George Morris.
The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
