Funeral services for Lelia Scott Bowens-Henry, 69, Tyler, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Cole Hill CME Church with the Rev. Orenthia Mason officiating.
Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery under direction of Brooks-Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors, Tyler.
Mrs. Bowens-Henry died Jan. 20, 2014, in Tyler.
She was born May 20, 1944, in Tyler to the late Hosea and Lula Hampton Scott and was a lifelong resident of Smith County. She was a graduate of Jackson High School, received her bachelor's degree from Texas College, and her master's degree from The University of Texas
at Tyler and did further study at Stephen F. Austin University. She was a member of Cole Hill CME Church, serving as Central Texas Annual Conference Missionary president, a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, past board president of Jackson Water Supply Corp., and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She was a retired educator.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Henry; daughter, Lillian MiJoi Bowens-Brooks; brother, Charles Scott; sister, Lillian Scott Houston; and granddaughter, Lorienne Joi Brooks.
Public viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday with family visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Bowens-Henry will lie in repose Saturday at Cole Hill CME Church, 13908 CR 384, from 10 a.m. to funeral time.
