John Francis "Jack" Ryder was born in Tyler, Dec. 5, 1991, to Dr. and Mrs. James Ryder. He passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
He was a graduate of St. Gregory Cathedral School and a 2010 graduate of Bishop T. K. Gorman High School. He studied mechanical engineering at The University of Texas
Jack is described by his siblings as a respected, thoughtful, brilliant and devoted brother. Jack's parents cherished his kind-hearted nature and loving spirit. He was a quiet soul who took things deeply to heart.
In high school he received the Christus Award, which is the highest award at Bishop T.K. Gorman based on faith, leadership, scholarship, and service. He enjoyed playing sports including baseball, basketball and golf. He loved going to the Masters and traveling with his Aunt Sara.
Jack was preceded in death by his younger brother, Peter; and his grandfathers, John Ryder and Dr. James O'Brien.
Jack is survived by his loving parents, Jim and Peggy Ryder; his siblings Madeline, Luke, Paul and Erinrose; as well as his grandmothers, Mrs. Barbara Kellogg Ryder and Mrs. Sara Jane O'Brien Murphy. In addition, he is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, including Steve and Terri Ryder and their children, Christopher and fiancée Lindsay, Timothy and wife Katie and Nicholas; David Ryder and Norm Rychlik; Anne and Brad Robertson and their children, Mary Kate, Matthew and Maggie; Tom and Sherrie Ryder and their children, Katie, Caroline and Davis; Kathleen and Pat Wood and their children, Patrick, John Thomas, Charles and William; Joan and Will McAlexander and their children, Michael, Walt and Wyatt; Mary and Sam Lorimer and their children, Margo and fiancé Pete, Sam, Michael, David and Maeve; J.R. O'Brien and his children, Conor and Kailey; Sara O'Brien; and Kevin O'Brien and his children, Maggie and Cullen.
Pallbearers will be Sam Lorimer, Sam Lorimer Jr., Conor O'Brien, Nicholas Ryder, Tom Ryder, Bill Wallace and Andy Matzke.
Visitation is scheduled on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. led by Father Justin Braun at Lloyd James Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. on Monday at the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated by Bishop Joseph E. Strickland.
