Joe Ed Bunton, 65, passed away April 26, 2013, at his home in Palestine. Joe Ed was born on April 17, 1948, in Palestine to Carl Patterson and Mary Alice Bobbitt Bunton.
Joe Ed grew up in Palestine. He graduated from Palestine High School in 1966 and attended College at Sam Houston University.
He enlisted in the Army
in 1969 and served for more than 15 years. He fought in the Vietnam War
and was the recipient of many medals, most notably the Bronze Star
Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster. He resigned his commission in 1984 after achieving the rank of major and earning a bachelor degree of Professional Aeronautics degree.
He served on the Palestine City Council for one term. He worked as an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance Company and worked in many areas of the oilfield for 20 years for Grey Wolf Drilling and Tesco Corporation. He joined Lone Star College in 2011 until present as director of oil and gas. He was a proud member of the International Association of Drilling Contractors and was dedicated to sharing his stories and knowledge with young people around the world.
Joe Ed married Phillis Ann Harden on Aug. 24, 1968, in Palestine. They were happily married for 44 years. Joe was a member of Trinity Valley Community Church. He was passionate about his family, his country and being able to help others through his work. Also, a devoted husband, loving father, trusted friend and teacher to hundreds, he will be greatly missed.
A funeral service under the direction of McCoy Funeral home will be held at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church, 3400 N. U.S.?Highway 79, Palestine, 75801, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Burial will follow at Roselawn Park Cemetery.
