Jim D. Woolverton

Services for Jim D. Woolverton, 85, of Tyler will be Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Pepper officiating. A graveside service will follow Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 4 p.m. in Holleman Cemetery in the Oak Flat community in Rusk County under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.

Jim passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Tyler and was born May 14, 1927, in Oak Flat community to the late Horace B. and Ada Vaughn Woolverton. He graduated in 1944 from Laneville High School and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in 1985 and master's degree in 1990, both from The University of Texas at Tyler. Jim served his country while in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the United States Postal Service after 42 years. He was a lifelong member and deacon of several churches in the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas. Jim taught part time at Jacksonville College and was later a substitute teacher for Robert E. Lee High School and other TISD schools for 16 years. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Mack Woolverton; sister, Evelyn Allen; twin grandsons, Jay and Jeremy Woolverton; and stepmother, Ophelia Jones Woolverton.

Jim is survived by his loving family including his wife of 56 years, Dale Woolverton, of Tyler; sons, Jerry Woolverton and wife Kelley, of Lindale, Jeff Woolverton, of Oak Flat community, and John Woolverton, of Tyler; daughter, Janie Oechsner, of Tyler; brothers, Gene and Buford Woolverton; sisters, Clara Smart, Lottie Johnson, Dehlia Parsons and JoAnn McKay; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.

Pallbearers will be Brent Woolverton, Joe Woolverton, B.J. Woolverton, Dennis Johnson, Tim Smart, Dana Bush, Clint Fletcher and Harvey Little Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Holleman, R.D. Carter and B.R. McMurray.

Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler.
