Jerry Horton Cade passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, with his wife and family by his side at The Hospice of East Texas HomePlace.
Born June 29, 1939, Jerry was delivered by his grandfather, Dr. A.C. Horton, in his grandparents' home in Brownsboro. He attended school in Homer and Linville, La., and graduated from Chandler High School before attending Tyler Junior College and joining the United States Army
in 1959. A descendant of the Horton, Scott and Cade families, Jerry took great pride in his lineage tracing back to the early settlers of Henderson County.
Jerry worked in the transportation industry before becoming a petroleum landman for most of his career. Over the years, his work took him to many different states, along with his loving wife, Doreen.
An avid hunter, fisherman and outdoor enthusiast since childhood, the peak of his hunting life was a trophy elk from a New Mexico hunting trip.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Henry and Mary Horton Cade; daughter, Rhonda Jane Cade Pulley; and brother, James Arthur Cade.
He is survived by wife, Doreen, of Brownsboro; son, Jerry Gregory Cade, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Andrea Brown, of Brownsboro; stepson, Edward Flaum, of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandchildren, Derek Cade, of Bastrop, and Shelby and Bryan Pulley of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; brother Joe H. Cade Jr., of Lindale; and sister, Mary Alice Cade Paddock, of Chandler.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, in Chandler Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
