Jean Brooks Hill

Sept. 26, 1924 ~ Feb. 22, 2013

Jean Hill and beloved husband of 62 years, Robert O. Hill Jr., had been residents of Henderson since moving from Austin in 1982 upon retirement. Jean was born in Marysville, Kan., daughter of Dr. Frederich Emerson and Ada Cochran Brooks. The Brooks family moved to Austin in 1939, where Jean graduated from Austin High School, and The University of Texas at Austin in 1948. Jean, while working at the Texas Employment Commission, met and later married the love of her life on June 23, 1950. She devoted herself to raising four sons, Steve (Trish), Mike (Janet), Wayne (Leslie) and Roger (Kathy), while continuing a work career with the Texas State Department of Health, retiring in 1981, after 20 years of service. Her love and energy devoted to family solidified the healthy values carried with us today, and forever more.

Jean is survived by her adoring family, including four sons; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; elder brother; and close nieces and nephews. Her quiet, gentle and non-judgmental nature warmed the hearts of those around her and the unconditional love she gave will be with us always, and will continue to guide those she touched.

The family gratefully thanks generous friends, Doris Jordan, Nelwin Nichols, Sandy and Johnny Kimball, who eased her role as primary caregiver, and the Senior Choir at Henderson First Baptist Church who warmly welcomed her back into her love of singing.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, in Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, 14619 N. Interstate 35, Austin, 78660.
