James Franklin Merrell Jr.

Services for James Franklin Merrell Jr., 89, of Tyler will be on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Rice officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
A private entombment will be in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum in Tyler under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Merrell passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, in Tyler.
He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Wharton to James Franklin Sr. and Arlena Pickard Merrell.
James was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and longtime leader at Broadway Baptist Church in Houston.
He graduated from Rice University and served in the United States Army during World War II.
James was retired from Sinclair/Arco/BP.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Merrell was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara M. Winters.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 66 years, George Anna "Janny" Merrell, of Tyler; son, Gene Alan Merrell and wife Carolynne; daughter, Jill Hardin and husband Steve; grandchildren, Christopher Legg, Kristin Thoma, Anna Grace Hardin and Gideon Hardin; and three great-grandchildren.
