Hershell Pruitt

Services for Hershell Pruitt, 81, of Tyler will be on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Dykes and Dr. Paul Powell officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Pruitt passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Florida.

He was born July 17, 1931, in Paynesville, W.Va., to Walter L. and Tilda Lester Pruitt.

Hershell was a longtime member of Green Acres Baptist Church.

Mr. Pruitt moved to Tyler at the age of 14 and graduated from Tyler High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Hershell was a real estate agent and developer in the Tyler area and continued doing so until his death. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Destin, Fla., at least two times a year and he and his wife celebrated their anniversary in New York.

In addition to his parents, Hershell was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin; and two sisters, Lou and Pat.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 61 years, Peggy, of Tyler; son, Paul Pruitt and wife Sharon, of Austin; grandchildren, Rowan and Derek Pruitt, both of Austin; brothers, James Pruitt, of Jonesboro, Ark., and Glen Pruitt, of Montgomery, Ala.; and sister, Geneva Salyer, of Bakersville, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Tom Lyles, Robert Kinsey, Rick Kinsey, Ray Todd, David Surratt, David Allison and Hal Inman.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Pruitt and Glen Pruitt.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
