Freddy Mason officiating. Services are under direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a reception following the memorial at the church. Mrs. Treadwell died peacefully April 9, 2013, in Carthage.

Mrs. Helen Louise Clemons Treadwell was born in Wichita Falls on Jan. 7, 1918, to Arthur Clemons and Edith Myrtle Neel Clemons. She was married to Marshall Bunn Treadwell Sept. 18, 1936.

Mrs. Treadwell was church secretary, pianist and organist at First Baptist Church, Rusk, for several years before completing her education. Mrs. Treadwell was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin with a master's degree in education.

She taught public school music and elementary school for many years in Rusk and Cherokee counties, retiring in 1976 from Jacksonville ISD as director of federal programs. After retirement, her education and influence continued as she became a Master Gardener, a published musician, plotted and drew maps for many cemeteries in the area, taught her grandchildren to fish, play the piano, rake the yard and love life. Among one of her many interests was quilting. She was a member of the Sacul Quilt Club before moving to Carthage. She hand-pieced and hand-quilted well over 150 quilts for her family and friends during this time, including quilts for every bed at Mission Carthage when it opened the women's shelter. She loved her Lord and church and had been a spiritual inspiration to her family and many friends during her 95 years on this earth. At this point in her journey, she had not stopped giving; she donated her body to The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas as a part of their Willed Body Program for medical education and research purposes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Burton Ray Clemons, of Arlington, and Arthur William Clemons, of Cushing. She resided in Rusk, Sacul and Cushing before moving to Carthage in 1992 and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Her loving children are Marshall Clemons Treadwell and wife Carol; Tommy Dan Treadwell and wife Beverly, of Tyler; and Suzanne Mason and husband Freddy Mason, of Carthage. She had eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all whom she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Sacul Cemetery, c/o Barbara Brooks, Cushing, 75760; Sacul Volunteer Fire Department, Sacul, 75788; or Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 1896 County Road 106, Carthage, 75633.
