Gaylon Jones

Gaylon Jones, 75, Tyler, passed away March 24, 2013, at The Hospice of East Texas, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Jasper on Sept. 25, 1937, to George and Bernice Jones. After graduation from Jasper High School, he came to Tyler and attended Tyler Commercial College. He served in the U.S. Navy. Gaylon worked for 20 years at the Ford Tractor dealership in Tyler and retired after 20 years of service with the Tyler Water Utilities Department. Gaylon loved his church. He was a longtime member and deacon of Friendly Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school and served on numerous committees. He loved going to his farm, especially with his boys, and doing whatever job needed to be done.

Gaylon was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Kenneth "Bo" Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, Tyler; son and daughter-in-law Butch and Kim Jones, Tyler; daughter-in-law Lauri Jones, Tyler; two granddaughters, Georgeanna Jones-Shaw, Tyler, and Lisa Jones-Alvarez, Nacogdoches; three grandsons, Travis, Nick, and John, all of Tyler; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, P.R. and Ouida DuPuy, Alabama; and great-granddaughter, "Gabby," Nacogdoches.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. The Rev. Milton Gardner, the Rev. Sam DeVille and the Rev. Pat Alvey will be in charge of services. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Travis Jones, Nick Jones, John Jones, James Redman, Charles Jordan, and Dennis Black. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and members of Paul Sunday School Class of Friendly Baptist Church.
