Elmer Philmore Bunn, 91, of Mineola, died peacefully with his family at his side on June 19, 2014.
Elmer was born in Davenport, Iowa, on Sept. 11, 1922, to the late Dr. and Mrs. E.P. Bunn.
He graduated from Mineola High School in 1941. He served his country during World War II
as an aviation machinist in the U.S. Navy
from 1941 to 1945. After his military duty, he worked 38 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Fort Worth. Upon retirement, he returned to Mineola, the town where he had grown up.
Mr. Bunn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineola and was the oldest living member of the Masonic Lodge No. 502 in Mineola. He also spent much of his adult life as a Boy Scout leader in the Boy Scouts of America. A true outdoorsman, Elmer enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and flying his airplane. On a special note was Elmer's participation in the Brookshire's-sponsored trip to Washington, D.C., and its war memorials.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Jenny Bunn; two sons, Gary Bunn, of Vancouver, Wash., and Alan Bunn, of Hitchcock; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday June 22, 2014, at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Mineola with Bro. Darrell Coats officiating.
