Ellis Glynn Stephens

Graveside services for Ellis Glynn Stephens, 89, of Overton will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, in Overton City Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Parsons officiating under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home.

Mr. Stephens passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in Overton. He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Ben Wheeler to the late Eddie E. and Faye Stanford Stephens. He married Margaret Palmer Silvey in New Boston on Oct. 31, 1957, and was a retired independent oil operator.

Glynn graduated from New London High School, class of 1940, and Kilgore College. He also attended The University of Texas at Austin and SMU. He served 3 1/2 years as a hospital Navy corpsman during World War II doing duty in the Philippines. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Faye Bennett.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Stephens, Overton; his sister, Edith Stephens; his stepson, Paul Silvey and wife Jane; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home in Overton.
