Ellen Kathryn "Katie" Rohling, of Chandler, passed away with family in attendance Dec. 26, 2013, in Tyler. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home. A reception will follow.
Katie was born May 4, 1953, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Alex and Mary Ellen Wallace. She attended N.R Crozier Technical High School in Dallas, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy
after graduating, where she served both abroad and in the U.S. for more than 20 years. Upon retirement, she returned to Texas, attending The University of Texas
at Tyler and working in the telecommunications manufacturing industry, which involved frequent travel to Mexico and China.
She was preceded in her death by her father, and her brothers, Paul Wallace and Daniel Wallace.
Katie is survived by her loving companion of 16 years, James "J.D." Dupree; her sisters, Donna Wallace and Laural Ziegler, of Chandler; her daughters, Jaime Simmons Forbus, of Frisco, and Catherine Marie Bennett, of Flint; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Katie's name to the USMC Reserve's "Toys for Tots" organization, toysfortots.org.
