Donald Clifford Hill, 87, was born on Jan. 20, 1927, and went to his eternal home on March 22, 2014, in Dallas. He was a lifelong resident of Tyler and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
After service in the U.S. Navy, he started JO Hill Construction Co. (later Don Hill Construction Co.) with his father, a business that built many structures around the East Texas area. He was past president of the Associated General Contractors and the Tyler Rotary Club
. He loved woodworking with his grandchildren, playing golf, cheering for the Texas Aggies, and early morning walks on the shores of Lake Palestine.
A humble person, Don was a devout man of God and lived a life of service to others and his community. His family will miss Don's broad smile, whistling of his favorite hymns, and the mischievous twinkle in his eye.
He is survived by wife of 69 years, Maxine White Hill; daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Ouska, of Minneapolis, Minn., Donna (Rick) Hancock, of Dunnellon Fla., Margaret (John) Paine, of Dallas; as well as nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church. Private family burial will be under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors, Tyler.
