Dewey L. Alexander

Dewey L. Alexander passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014, after a long illness. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at Pollard United Methodist Church in Tyler at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, with the Rev. Richard Luna presiding in cooperation with the Rev. Alicia Coltzer.
Dewey was a graduate of the public schools in Edom and high school in Van, and studied at Tyler Junior College. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Texas and in Washington state between World War II and the Korean War. After service, he entered the insurance business with his future wife, Faye Garrett. They married in 1952 and had three sons, Steven, Scott and Stanley Alexander. Dewey was predeceased by his parents, Burton and Velma Alexander; his brothers, Luther and Marshall; and his sister, Pansy Humphrey. He is survived by his three sons and their mother; Scott's wife, Lori, their children; and numerous relatives in East Texas.
After retirement from active participation in the insurance business, Dewey acted as a property manager in Tyler. In recent years, Dewey made many new friends in the Rambling Roses and Red's Reflections square dance clubs of East Texas.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to Pollard United Methodist Church, 3030 New Copeland Road, Tyler, 75701; or to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701, where he received gentle, loving care in his final hours.
