Billy James Payne

Services for Billy James Payne, 86, of Tyler, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Oglesby officiating. Private burial will be at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
B.J. was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Tyler to the late Bryan and Ruby Herring Payne, and passed away Aug. 24, 2013, in Tyler. He served his country while in the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard. B.J. retired as a Smith County Commissioner in Precinct 1 and was the owner and operator of Payne Used Cars for more than 55 years. He was a member of Rose Heights Church of God and a lifelong member of the Masons and Shriners. B.J. was preceded in death by his son, Jack Riley Payne.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlette Payne; a daughter, Jill Martin; stepchildren, Melanie Wiggins, Wendy Reschke and Jimmy Reimer; grandchildren, Jennifer Ray and Roy Martin; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at the funeral home.
