Billie Ray Geisler

Billie Ray "Bill" Geisler, 74, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Azalea Place in Tyler. He was born March 2, 1938, in Marlin as an only child to Willie Christ Geisler and Ida Mae Robertson Geisler Jurecka.

Bill graduated Ben Hur High School in 1956 and later attended The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston. He met the love of his life, Betty Jones, his "BJ," in 1957 while both were employed at Southwestern Bell, Houston. They were married July 17, 1959, and celebrated more than 53 years of marriage before his death.

Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964, where he discovered his love for computers. He spent the rest of his business career as a computer programmer and retired from Lockheed Martin at Johnson Space Center, Houston. After retiring, Betty and Bill moved to Emerald Bay where he enjoyed many activities, but being out on the lake racing his Hobie Catamarans gave him the most joy.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents, Willie and Ida Geisler, and stepfather Charlie Jurecka.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jones Geisler; sisters-in-law, Cindy Lawrence, Gen Swift, Paula Burns and their families. Bill is also survived by his mother-in-law, Faye Needham; aunts, Nettie Ray Moore, Louise Stuart (Damon); uncle, Dick Hudson (Betty); and cousins, Shawn Springer-Vance, Zach (Elysia) Springer, Tina Ward and Woody Moore. The Geislers faithfully attended Noonday Baptist Church for the past 10 years. Cremation for Bill is being handled by Hilliard Funeral Home, Van.

To the doctors, nurses and other caregivers who provided for Bill's needs, a special thank-you. For family and friends who helped Bill by helping me this past year, I send my gratitude and love. - BJ, wife of Billie Ray Geisler
