Arden Melvin Erickson

Arden Melvin Erickson, of Bullard, was born June 12, 1923, and died Feb. 6, 2014, the eldest of five children from the union of Hilda and Melvin Erickson in Frederic, Wis.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard a supply ship in the South Pacific. Arden graduated from North Texas State College in 1950 and joined the Dallas school system as a woodshop teacher. He became an elementary school principal for Blanton and later Amelia Earhart, before retiring in 1979. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Tyler.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Helen Erickson; sister, Leone, of Wisconsin; son, Arden Erickson and wife Fran, of Arizona; stepsons, Paul Nelson and wife Doris, of Arlington, and Mark Nelson and wife Rhonda, of Colorado; and two grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard, with burial at sea in New Orleans.
