Alfred "Ed" Miles

Alfred Edgar "Ed" Miles of Houston went to be with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Spring Baptist Church. Graveside service will take place in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donnie Barron officiating.

Ed was born on April 26, 1930, in Nashville, Tenn., to Alfred Blackman Miles and Lucy Miles. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Joyce Sadler, for 60 years. After he graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in geology, he served two years as a lieutenant in the Navy on the USS Des Moines. He then completed his master's degree in geology and was employed by Exxon Oil for 33 years.

After retirement he attended Southwestern Seminary and received his master's degree in theology. He and Joyce became senior adult coordinators for the Tryon Evergreen Baptist Association in Conroe.

Ed was a devout man of God and student of the Bible. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being outdoors. His hobbies included sword collecting, family genealogy and history.

We remember him as a faithful servant of God, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by the love of his life, Joyce; his children, Cheryl Miles Hood and husband Robin of Bullard, Alfred Bruce Miles and wife Kim of Warner Robins, Ga., and John Joseph Miles and wife Susanne of Norfolk, Va. Grandkids include Sara Hood Youmans and husband Jimmy, Miles Hood, Amelia Miles and Duncan and Shepherd Miles.
