Mr. Massey passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in Tyler.

Mr. Massey was born April 10, 1925, at the Dixie Gardens Plantation, near Hazlehurst, Miss. He graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in mechanical engineering through the Navy V-12 program and then spent his entire working career holding various managerial positions at the Chevron Oil Co. in Mississippi and southern Louisiana. At his retirement party he remarked that he could not envision a happier working career than his had been!

Joe absolutely loved playing the piano, especially when surrounded by friends who were singing along. He made beautiful furniture out of oak and cherry in his very perfectly arranged woodworking shop. He was an avid reader, especially of British history. Joe loved life to the utmost!

He is survived by the love of his life, Huldah Leake Massey of Bullard; his daughter, Jo Dobbs and husband Gary of Bullard; his sons, Mark Massey and wife Beth of Whitehouse and Gary Massey and wife Cindy of Pensacola, Fla. Grandkids include Amanda Moyer and husband Scott of Orange, Wayne Massey of Pensacola, Fla., April Massey of Dallas and Lara Massey of Dallas; and great-grandkids, Kylie and Tye Moyer of Orange.

Memorials may be made to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701.
