Joe Bailey Dickey was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Ireland, Texas, to the late Herbert Williams Dickey and Cevella Beatrice Dickey.
Following graduation from Athens High School in 1957 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served four years. Joe attended Trinity Valley Community College, Texas Christian University and The University of Texas at Arlington. He was a salesman by trade and a fervent advocate of having a good time. Joe devoted his life to loving his late wife, Karen Faulk Dickey, who passed away in February 2012. He found his greatest joy in making her as happy as she made him. They were high school sweethearts and married for 48 years.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Ruth Bennett.
Joe is survived by his sister, Jackie Lou Phillips; brother, Bill Otis Dickey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, with graveside services following at 2:30 p.m. in Athens Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Athens High School Class of 1957.
