Memorial services for Jeanie Ruth Carter will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at First Baptist Church, South Campus, 17002 U.S. Highway 69 S., Tyler, 75703, with Pastor Chris Legg officiating.
Jeanie was born Feb. 2, 1957, in El Dorado, Ark. She earned her master's degree from The University of Texas at Tyler and was employed by Tyler Junior College where she taught speech classes. She formerly did work with CASA, East Texas Crisis Center, Legacy Hospice and many other civic organizations. She enjoyed scrapbooking in her spare time.
Jeanie passed away at the age of 55 on Jan. 12, 2013, in Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita McGowan and Gene Hathcoat.
She leaves behind her husband, Melvin Carter of Whitehouse; daughter and son-in-law, Hollie and John Allen of Tyler; son, Casey Carter of Sugar Land; stepfather, Jimmy McGowan of Coffee City; brothers, Bobby Hathcoat of Houston, and Stoney McGowan and wife Tracy of Henderson, Ky.; sister, Suzanne Spillers of Whitehouse; cousin, Terri Butcher of Whitehouse; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and extended family, Audrey and Aaron Katchmarik of Tyler.
