James L. Ritter A memorial service for James L. Ritter, 68, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Mark Braaten of Our Savior's Lutheran Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Ritter passed away Nov, 23, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 16, 1944, in San Rafel, Calif. His parents were Clifford Wayne and Mary Margaret Ritter.
James served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and received the Vietnam U.S. Campaign Ribbon for his service. He also served as a police officer for the Lawton, Okla., police department for 12 years. A great life accomplishment for James was building his own home with his wife. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
James is survived by his loving family including his wife, Betty Lynn Ritter, of Tyler; children, James S. Ritter and wife Suzanne, of Jacksonville, N.C., Kimberly Sue Tarter and husband J.R., of Des Moines, Iowa, Ralph Ritter and wife Tiffany, of Austin, Robert Ritter and wife Stephanie, of Tyler, Craig A. Myers and wife Kimberly, Brian Myers and wife Dana, Michael Birdsong and Derick J. Myers, all of Tyler; siblings, Richard Ritter and wife Ruth, Paul Ritter, all of Oklahoma, Kenneth Ritter and wife Donna, of Washington, Jeannie Purdum and husband Ray and Sherry Dunning, all of Oklahoma; and by 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's' Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
