George Erwin Kirkwood

Obituary

Services for Mr. George Erwin Kirkwood, age 82, of Lindale, are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bruce Rudd officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Sylvan Cemetery. Mr. Kirkwood died on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in the Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He was born on Feb. 18, 1930, in Wichita Falls to George Marvin and Gladys Burnside Kirkwood, and was formerly of Tyler before moving to Hideaway and Lindale 35 years ago. Mr. Kirkwood was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force, was a Methodist, a member of the Mensa Society, and a life master at the game of bridge. He graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor's Degree and was retired from Texas Department of Transportation after 45 years of service.

Survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Kirkwood, of Lindale; five sons, Ron Kirkwood, of Houston, Steve Kirkwood, of San Antonio, Kevin Kirkwood, of McKinney, Paul Kirkwood, of Artesia, N.M., and Tom Whiteside, of Mount Sylvan; sister, Mrs. Jane Booton, of Fort Worth; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ron Kirkwood, Steve Kirkwood, Kevin Kirkwood, Paul Kirkwood, Tom Whiteside and David Barron.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at the funeral home.
