A memorial service will be held for Clarence R. "Bub" Gilbert, 88, of Emerald Bay, Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Sundance at Oak Hills, 2651 Elkton Trail, Tyler, 75703.
Mr. Gilbert passed away peacefully on March 15, 2013, at Sundance at Oak Hills Memory Care Community in Tyler. Clarence was born in Commerce to Horace and Altus Gilbert on Jan. 22, 1925.
Clarence married Peggy Joyce Bench on Sept. 1, 1945, in Greenville. They had three children and celebrated their 67th anniversary last year.
Clarence graduated from Commerce High School. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, served in the Navy during World War II, and graduated from SMU in 1949 with a degree in civil engineering. He was a life member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He was employed by the U.S. Geological Survey for 33 years and the Lower Colorado River Authority for 10 years. He retired in 1990 and moved with Peggy from Austin to Emerald Bay, near Tyler, where he pursued his passion for golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Harold Gilbert.
Surviving Clarence are his wife, Peggy Gilbert; his daughter, Gay Iglehart and husband Don Iglehart; daughter, Kathryn Gibbs; son, Charles Gilbert and wife Rosann Gilbert; his sister, Dortha Erwin; grandchildren, Andrew Iglehart, Blake Gibbs, Laura Gibbs Cook and Carolyn Gibbs.
Clarence will be remembered as a quiet, thoughtful man who was dedicated to his family.
